Our History

The story so far

Open Door Church has a remarkable story — one of faith, perseverance and God’s miraculous provision.

We have a big vision and an even bigger God who calls us to love our town, the region and the nations too. Come and join us as we pursue God’s plan for Open Door Church!

  • 1993

    The Beginning

Open Door Church was started as an Anglican church plant from St Botolph’s Church, Barton Seagrave. A small group of people with a big vision began meeting together, committed to seeing God move in Kettering.

  • Early Years

    Finding our Feet

After a time as an independent church, Open Door went through several challenging years. But the faithfulness of God — and His people — carried the church through. The church relaunched as a church plant belonging to the Newfrontiers family of churches.

  • Growing

    A Growing Family

The church has grown considerably over the years, meeting in several school halls across Kettering. People were saved, families joined, and community was built. God was clearly at work growing something special in Kettering.

  • Broadening

    Joining Catalyst

In 2011, Newfrontiers transitioned from a single, centralized international family of churches led by Terry Virgo to a decentralized network of autonomous ‘apostolic spheres’ Open Door joined the Catalyst Network of churches, placing us in a larger picture of God’s plan for the UK and worldwide.

  • 2012

    The Eden Centre

In September 2012, the church moved to the Eden Centre — a former nightclub in the heart of Kettering. God provided miraculously for this move, and the story of His provision and leading over this time is one we love to tell. A former place of night life became a place of new life!

  • Today

    An International Church Family

The church continues to grow steadily through new Christians, people moving into the area and Christians from other backgrounds joining us. We have been thrilled to welcome people from other nations — we are growing to become a genuinely international church family, reflecting the diversity of God’s kingdom.

  • Tomorrow

    Looking Ahead

We continue to pursue the vision God has given us — to love people, build communities and influence cultures. We believe the best chapters of the Open Door story are still to be written.

Be part of the story God's story at Open Door is still being written. We'd love for you to come and be a part of it.
