Sundays
We would love to welcome you to Open Door Church.
Here’s everything you need to know before your first visit.
What to Expect on a Sunday
Visiting a church for the first time can feel daunting. We want to make it as easy and welcoming as possible.
Open Door meets in a former nightclub, The Eden Centre. We may not look like a ‘traditional church’ but inside you’ll find warm, genuine people who are glad you came.
There’s no dress code. There’s no pressure to do, say or believe anything. Just come and see.
A typical Sunday, step by step
Arriving
People usually arrive at the Eden Centre in Kettering from about 10:00am onwards. There’ll be a friendly welcome team at the door, happy to answer any questions and point you in the right direction.
Kids & Youth
Before the service begins, children can be booked in at our kids check-in point and then head to their age-appropriate groups. Youth usually stay in the main meeting until around 11:00am, and a notice on the screen will let them know when it’s time to go. All leaders are DBS checked. For more details, see below.
The Service Starts (10:30am)
The service begins at 10:30am with a welcome from the service host. We start with contemporary worship music — you don’t have to sing along if you don’t want to, just feel free to listen and take it in. Some people stand, some sit — do whatever you’re comfortable with.
Worship & Prayer
We spend around 45 minutes in worship and prayer. The style is contemporary and lively. We love to encourage each other as we worship, so various people may come and share a scripture or what they feel God is saying to the church. You may see people praying for one another, or moments of quiet. Nothing will be forced upon you.
Crèche (Upstairs)
For parents and carers with very young children, our upstairs crèche provides a relaxed space with toys and a live stream of the service. You’re not obliged to use it — you are welcome to keep your children with you in the main meeting — but it’s available if it helps your family. Tea and coffee facilities are provided.
Bible Teaching
After worship, there’s usually around 30 – 40 minutes of Bible teaching — practical, engaging and relevant to everyday life. We believe that the Bible is the main way God speaks to us, and we love to dig into it together. You don’t need to own a Bible — the text is usually displayed on screen. You can also find a free online copy here or download this free Bible app if you find it helpful.
Afterwards
We normally finish around 12.15pm. After the service, people tend to hang around and chat — sometimes for a long time! Free tea and coffee are provided, and there is occasionally food too. We also have a welcome area where you can ask any questions you might have or learn more about the church if you wish. You’re very welcome to stay and get to know people, or slip away quietly if you prefer. Either is fine.
